The ice hockey club
which nurtures kid's energy.
The Sendai Junior Ice Hockey Club was founded in 1976, and is one of the oldest junior ice hockey teams in Sendai, Miyagi. There are about 40 members from kindergarten kids to junior high school students. What we think is important is that each player should be able to "enjoy" ice hockey and "try their best". We believe that our kids can gain the energy and vitality to be used in everyday life through making small achievements and taking small steps on and off the ice, which they can rely on as they grow up to become a driving force in our society.
The emblem of our team is composed of an "S" for Sendai, and a white lion holding a hockey stick. It is said that white lions were numerous in the ice age. They are symbolized as a strong animal, but somehow they also give us feelings of warmth. We hope our kids have both "strong hearts", which aid them in not giving up on anything easily, and "kind hearts", which allow them to think about their teammates all the time, like lions do.
Our team is run by the children's parents. We have team leaders who are appointed every year, but mainly all the parents get together and have a say in making the team's policies. We often encourage the kids to think about the team and ask their thoughts, and that enables them to gain the responsibility to think and decide things by themselves.
